  • Official Modern Prison - The new addition to OPLegends coming soon!

    Hey everyone!

    Back in May, we previewed our Skyblock gamemode, built on modern Minecraft 1.17. There has been a lot of excitement around its release! One of the biggest questions we have been asked since that announcement has gone live is "will there be a modern version of Prison?", and we are now happy to say the answer is a resounding yes with a new addition to the OPLegends family of gamemodes!

    Important Distinction

    This gamemode is not replacing Prison Neptune. Prison Neptune updates and resets will continue as they normally do and these plans will not be interfering with them. This is an addition to our network, not a replacement for other gamemodes. It is also not going to be interfering with our development plans for Skyblock V2: those are still underway but are taking longer than anticipated due to the overwhelming amount of content we have to add. Luckily, this server will also help us release Skyblock V2 faster as it will give us the opportunity to test a lot of the shared codebase and iron out issues with our framework to allow Skyblock V2 to be even better!

    Getting that out of the way, so you can understand how this awesome new server comes without any drawbacks, we're very proud to announce Modern Prison: a perfect overhaul of our Prison experience, keeping everything that makes Prison Neptune great, fixing a few bad gameplay decisions we made with Prison Neptune, and adding in tons of incredible features and mechanics which are only possible because of the same great technology that allows us to make Skyblock V2.

    With that in mind, here's a brief overview of the gamemode.

    Mining Experience

    The first and most important thing to show off is mining! Just like any other Prison gamemode, you mine to earn currency and rank up.

    However, unlike Prison Neptune, there are no prestiges: just INFINITE ranks. That's right, infinite ranks. If you want to be rank one million, go for it. If you want to be rank one billion, go for it. The sky is the limit.

    As you rank up, you earn more money and more orbs (as opposed to Prison Neptune where orbs do not scale as you rankup). We made this change of orbs scaling to encourage ranking up to be the primary objective of Prison. We think this fixes the game and makes it less confusing.

    Currencies have very specific purposes which are slightly different from Prison Neptune:
    Dollars: Earned by mining, scales as you rank up. Spent on ranking up.
    Orbs: Earned by mining, scales as you rank up. Spent on enchant upgrades, robot upgrades,
    Experience: Earned by mining, always one block to one EXP. Spent on building blocks in /expshop.,

    Enchants

    With Modern Prison, we have a new assortment of 12 enchants! Some of these are based on old favorites, but plenty are new.

    What exactly all these enchants are will be revealed in the full changelog next week, but maybe you can get an idea of what some of these are...

    Robots

    Robots are awesome helpers you can redeem to work for you. They earn dollars for you passively (including while offline!). You can level them up to increase the rate at which you earn money.

    Pets

    Pets are one of player's favorite features on Prison Neptune. We agree: pets are awesome! With Modern Prison, we have designed a new version from the ground up to address the following concerns:
    1. Ensuring the system provides the same long-term grind that pets on Prison Neptune have.
    2. Allowing for a system to combine pets which is not as confusing or unintuitive as pet ascension.

    Pets on modern prison are categorized by type (Money and Orb pets). You can feed them Pet Food to level up. Pet food is found by mining or can be obtained in exchange for an old pet you do not want.

    Pet food has different tiers (Tier I, II, III, etc), where each successive tier is worth 10x the previous tier (1 Pet Food II is 10 food, 1 Pet Food III is 100 food, 1 Pet Food IV is 1000 food, so on and so forth). Tier I pet food can be found while mining, while old pets you do not want can be exchanged for pet food at the Pet Collector.

    While active, pets follow you around and give you a mining multiplier.

    Mushroom Armor

    Similar to Prison Neptune's Gem Armor, there is Mushroom Armor on Modern Prison! When mining, you obtain different types of mushrooms. These mushrooms can be crafted into armor which provides multipliers. Lower tier mushrooms can also be crafted together into higher tier mushrooms. Unused armor can be exchanged back into mushrooms.

    Relics

    Because Crates on Modern Prison are for global items (titles, hats, chat emotes, paints, and more), we are introducing Relics, which are a system allowing you to obtain in-game items to speed up your progression.

    Every day, the Relic Archeologist has an assortment of relics available to pick up. These can go into your Relic Canister (the left part of the above image), where they will stay indefinitely. Using the Relic Researcher, you can research one relic at a time, which allows you to unlock it over some time period (12 hours, 2 days, a week, etc), where better relics take longer to unlock.

    Once unlocked, you can claim the relic to go into your inventory, where it opens like any other crate key. You can unlock relics for free, but they take time. If you wish to speed up the process, you can spend gems to unlock relics faster. You can obtain premium items to allow you to use the other 3 slots (red, blue,

    Recap: Premium Item Economy

    Because Modern Prison is built on the same framework as Skyblock V2, it also has the same incredible premium item system! You can open crates to unlock titles, crate keys, chat emotes, hats, nicknames, paints, and other amazing premium items. When you win these items, they go to your Backpack (visible to other players), and you can also trade these items to other players or list them on the Premium Item Market to get Gems in exchange for them!

    Common crates can be opened as many times as you want from the crate merchant. His selection of crates changes daily, so make sure to check back! Higher tier crates (Rare, Mythic, and Legendary crates) are randomly dropped while you are playing. They require crate keys to open, which you can win from Common crates or buy off of the premium market.

    That's about all we have to show for now. We are really excited to be introducing this! We've been hard at work getting our gameplay caught up to modern times, and we have plenty of incredible capabilities with this new and innovative version of our network. From supporting thousands of players to using custom content to bring the immersive experience we always wished we could create, I'm certain that this really is the future of our network.

    We will have a full announcement and changelog out next week in anticipation of our full release on August 7th. We are starting staff beta testing today and will have some form of limited player testing with trusted players early this week (as soon as tomorrow).
